Race Report – Sunday 29 June 2025

Winter Championships and Point ScoreThe Lou Reed song “Perfect Day” must have been written to describe todays racing conditions & Ian Alexander’s (PRO) course laying skills, ably supported by COTD Alban Delpey. A faithful westerly ranging from 8 to 14 knots meant no course adjustments required, providing for punctual race sequences. A fleet of 22 managed to relinquish slumber hours & experience this magical morning. With only one general recall (Standards, 2nd race) racing commenced 08:05 and had all returning at 10:00 to enjoy the sunny morning. Results – Winter Championships, Races 19, 20 & 21:ILCA 6 (1st, 2nd, 3rd):R19: Roberto Blum, Alistair Sutherland, Katie McHughR20: Andrew Cox, Roberto Blum,

Youth Reach Program Lunch

The sun and harbour put on a glorious show last Sunday for our Youth Reach lunch. It was both a social gathering and Q&A session. We are very fortunate at Double Bay to have such depth of talent to tap into. Dan, Healy, Paige and Craig Ryan all generously passed on their wisdom to the ILCA 4 crop of sailors and parents heading to the 2025 ILCA Youth World Championships in LA next month. What a glorious way to wrap up Term 2: sun, nem nuong (Vietnamese grilled pork sausage) and good company. Link to the carrot & lentil salad recipe is HERE (my tweaks to the recipe not included)-Van Allen Photos by James Tudball:

Race Report – Sunday 22 June 2025

Winter Championships and Point ScoreWhat words to use to describe the conditions ??? Champagne? Perfection? You had to have been there? The course was set for the NWN land breeze of 5kt. Subsequently it was lengthened twice as we were rewarded with improving conditions before race time. There was a bit of tide, Clarke Island came into play, and the shifts were there. It made for tactical racing with good pressure for most of the day. A big battle between Alistair and Coxy in the radials as they vie for champion status. Full rigs pushed the limit on the start line with “just made it” dips at the pin. The 4.7s joined with the Woollahra training squad for the final race of the day.A precise

Winter Sprints (King’s Birthday Long Weekend)A morning chill in the air and WNW 15 kts, building throughout the morning to gusts of 22 kts. The holiday weekend, morning cool, and forecast building breeze kept a few people away, with 13 keen starters arriving at the 0800 warning signal for Winter Sprints two-lap W/L courses.Plenty of hard hiking paid dividends and some good rides downwind. Plenty of swims and a few testing their thermals, but all arrived back on the sunny deck with smiles.Standards: Rod Barnes and Conor KellettRadials: Kate McHugh and Scott FinlaysonNotable mention to Tim Heath for near perfect sailing in final race to lead for most of the race and excellent upwind

Race Report – Sunday 1 June 2025

Winter Championship & Point Score – Races 10, 11 & 121st day of winter, champagne conditions, and once all warmed up and forecast sunny 19-deg, it was a classic day on Sydney Harbour all to ourselves. Hughey came to sail with a nice steady 9 kt W breeze and the occasional puff of 10 kt from WNW. A good turn out of 27 boats and we managed full three races of 25-30 minutes each and separate starts for all fleets. Stand out performances for the day were Harper Spacey in 4.7s with 2 wins, Alistair Sutherland in Radials for the perfect scorecard, whilst the Standards very kindly shared the chocolates. Here are the results (R10, R11, R12):Championship4 – Harper Spacey x 2,
