Race Report – Saturday 21 December 2024

Spring Point Score Races 13 & 14Report by PRO Dave NewmanFor the final races of 2024 and concluding the Spring Pointscore Series with Races 13 & 14, we were greeted with a light Nor’easterly breeze predicted to rotate to the East, which it did just after resetting a NE course! After some quick adjustments we got underway in a 6-8 knot breeze and outgoing tide which resulted in some OCS in both ILCA 6 & 7. Race 13 was won by Michael Morris in the ILCA 6 and Stephen Reid in the ILCA 7.The breeze increased for the beginning of race 14 before lighting as the race went on. The chocolates in Race 14 went to Michael

DBSC's Christmas Party

Ian Tudball sums up the evening:What a magic way to wrap up a stunning race day on the Harbour.Diana, Peter C, and their merry band of helpers put on a brilliant party that kicked off early and just when the night needed some extra spark, disco queen, Shirley hit the dance floor. As seen in the pics, Bad Santa was always lurking in the background.(all pics by Tuddy)

Tyrell & Rousso RacesReport by PRO Luke ParkerA light ESE dictated that the course be set in the Dardanelle straight between point piper and Shark island.  As always there were plenty of shifts and holes, but this week the fleet enjoyed added pleasure(?) of a multitude of yachts racing an interclub series.  And a plethora of charter boats hosting Christmas parties.  And jet boats blasting around with tourists.  And Sydney ferries.  And a few historical 18’s were there as well.   It was a busy day.  Keeping out of trouble was the aim.  Most succeeded to some extent. The two races took into account yardstick.   Full Rigs are  rated at 114, Radials 118.5 and

Club Championship Races 9 & 10Report by PRO Ash DeaconThe weather gods, clearly lacking any moral principles, decided to play dirty with DBSC’s championship heats 9 & 10. The combination of a very warm Tasman Sea, and bands of thunderstorms rolling in from the west created a stiflingly humid day and a feeble westerly breeze. The race management team arrived early to assess if Sail Sydney had ungraciously parked their courses in ‘our’ waters. Fortunately, they hadn’t, and we exercised our rights and dropped buoys. The breeze was virtually non-existing by the time we had to lay a course, and we elected to set a westerly course noting some encouraging flutter of the

This Saturday – Tyrrell and Rousso Races

The Tyrrell and Rousso races will be held this Saturday, 14 December 2024.The first race (the Tyrrell) is a handicapped start where the faster boats must chase down the slower boats.  There will be a normal 5-minute countdown start sequence, at which time those will zero handicap (the slowest boats) will start. After that, faster boats will start when the race time reaches their handicap over the next 5-10 minutes.  The handicaps will be announced during the briefing on Saturday. The first boat over the finish is the winner.  The second race (the Rousso) is a scratch race, with everyone starting on the same start line with a normal 5-minute countdown sequence.  The first ILCA4, ILCA6 and LICA7 across the line are the “finalists” and the overall winner will be determined by applying a yardstick across the three separate classes. These are once-a-year prestigious events for DBSC that come with

Race Report – Saturday 30 November 2024

Spring Point Score Races 11 & 12Report by Geoff KirkSaturday morning greeted us with rain, and poor visibility on the harbour, but by the time the afternoon came around the rain had cleared, and a steady 10-15 knot NE had filled in nicely. The on-water team was Brendan Pollard on Jazzman. Hadrien Bourely and Michael Morris carrying out COTD duties, Dave Newman as RIB Reserve (and looking very glamorous on the new RIB). Thank you very much for the help, it led to a very stress-free day. Race 11 In the Radial rig Kerryn Smith had the win, followed by Jim Dounis, and Scott Hunter (he had a solid day on scratch) in 3rd.  In the Full
