Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.This week we’d like to thank Christine Patton. Christine has received several nominations in recent weeks for her outstanding sense of community and her ongoing contribution to race officiating. Christine has volunteered for race management duty more than any other member of the club in the past year. On top of this, Christine regularly provides support in the canteen on Saturdays and Sundays. She has been known to climb up onto the roof to clear out plants from places where they shouldn’t be at our annual working bees. And finally, Christine is a regular contributor and participant in our social events. We can all agree, she rocks a turban as well!

Race report 1 October 2022
As reported by our PRO, Robert Vann:Scattered showers in the morning cleared nicely for our afternoon racing, with a strong turnout for sprints over the long weekend. Sailors enjoyed an 8-12 knot south-easterly breeze in an ebbing tide which led to some tricky racing between Clark Island and Point Piper. The sprint courses were the standard 2X windward/leeward, running for 10-15 minutes apiece.

The Women's Regatta and coaching clinics
We have organised a series of training clinics leading up to The Women’s Regatta in December, if you haven’t been on the water for a while or just want to improve your skills…The clinics will be held on Saturday mornings from 8:00am – 11:00am and will be coached by Sylvie Stannage at Double Bay Sailing Club. He’s been running ILCA World Championships for 20 years, is currently the ILCA World Council Vice President and is a finalist for the 2022 National Sailing Awards as Official of the Year. 2022 ILCA 6 Men's & Women's World Championships
The 2022 ILCA 6 Men’s & Women’s World Championships are underway in Kemah, Texas with racing commencing 11 October. Sylvie Stannage, Evie Saunders, and Cote Poncell are competing at the event alongside the Australian Sailing Team and the best single-handed women sailors in the world. You can follow along here.
Wednesday twilight racing
After a washout last week, Wednesday twilight racing is back on this week.Racing will be informal, off Clarke Island, with rabbit starts. Splash at 17:00 for racing from 17:30 (or a soon as you can make it). If you need any inspiration, or a compelling argument for your boss, watch this video!We have a WhatsApp group for coordination. This weekend
This weekend a contingent of sailors are heading to Lake Macquarie for the Coast Championships. Back at Double Bay, we will have sprints on Saturday.This weekend is also the first weekend of the season for the18 footers. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.This week we’d like to thank our resident architect, John Chesterman. John is always helping behind the scenes putting considerable efforts into current projects like the redesign of the Handicapping Table area which will include storage for a lot of the gear that currently sits on display on the floor or table, and also exciting future projects, like extensions to the clubhouse that are in the planning stages. When not putting his fine drawing skills to the task of designing a new deck, he can be found with the hammer and chisel making repairs to the existing deck at our annual working bee. Thank you, John!
