Race report 1 October 2022
As reported by our PRO, Robert Vann:Scattered showers in the morning cleared nicely for our afternoon racing, with a strong turnout for sprints over the long weekend. Sailors enjoyed an 8-12 knot south-easterly breeze in an ebbing tide which led to some tricky racing between Clark Island and Point Piper. The sprint courses were the standard 2X windward/leeward, running for 10-15 minutes apiece.

Race report 15 October 2022
From our PRO Steven London:Over 20 Lasers turned out for a sunny and picturesque Saturday Sprint Racing on Sydney Harbour. The course was off Shark Island and into Rose Bay, with light shifty winds about 10 knots starting from the SE but soon shifted to the East. There were 4 sprint races about 20 minutes each, then the last race was a series of broad reaches back to the club house – up to the top mark, then Point Piper YA mark, over to the KFC and back home to the clubhouse.Winners in the Standards included Yves Stening, Luke Parker, Andrew Simpson, and in the Radials, Alistair Sutherland, David Huber, and David Airey.Thank you to our on water support Steven London (PRO), David Murphy (LTRaR), Keryyn Smith (COTD), David Devlin (CoCOTD) assisted by Derek Hand. We also had extra helpers out on the Start Boat Josh and Xander who cheered
Volly of the week
Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.This week we’d like to thank our resident architect, John Chesterman. John is always helping behind the scenes putting considerable efforts into current projects like the redesign of the Handicapping Table area which will include storage for a lot of the gear that currently sits on display on the floor or table, and also exciting future projects, like extensions to the clubhouse that are in the planning stages. When not putting his fine drawing skills to the task of designing a new deck, he can be found with the hammer and chisel making repairs to the existing deck at our annual working bee. Thank you, John!

A note on racing this weekend
The PRO is well aware of the Sydney Swan’s 4.45pm semi-final kick-off. While sailors won’t make it to the SCG in time for the game (you probably don’t have tickets anyway), expect prompt starts so we can enjoy the game. In the circumstances, expect a bias towards individual recalls vs general recalls! So don’t be a couch potato or skip sailing for the footy. With a little support from Huey, everyone can enjoy 2 races, a hot shower and be settled in front of the 18 footer’s TV for the first bounce!
Registration is now open for The Women's Regatta
Registration is now open for the 2022 Women’s Regatta, to be held on Saturday 3 December at Double Bay Sailing Club.The one-day event will include races on Sydney Harbour, great food, entertainment, and activities aimed at women of all ages who currently sail an ILCA / Laser dinghy, or are looking to return to racing.If you haven’t been on the water for a while or just want to improve your skills, we have a series of women’s training clinics leading up to the regatta.Head over to thewomensregatta.com.au to get all the info and register now!

Tim has replaced Mark Crowhurst as roster coordinator and has been doing an outstanding job! He has finessed the weekly email sent to volunteers, as well as joined the committee. The effort that goes into coordinating the race management each week should not be underestimated (especially when he is on holidays)!
The club is full of people making wonderful contributions around the place, and sometimes behind the scenes. Let us know who deserves a mention!
Race report 10 September 2022
From our PRO Geoff Kirk:Someone once described Sydney Harbour as an extremely good-looking person who doesn’t have to do much to attract attention. Well, it just stood there and looked pretty on Saturday! It was a beautiful day for sailing, and to be out on the response boats. Jazzman was ably manned by Murray Stone (LTRAR) who did a superb job and has now progressed to full PRO status, and Geoff Kirk, who is looking to be demoted from PRO status. On the response boats were Peter D’arcy-King and parents of our youth sailors, Ben, and Craig, who jumped in on the day and did a fantastic job. For Spring Point Score races 1 and 2 the sailing conditions were tricky, with a continuation of the winter westerlies, and a 180-degree shift in the second race.
