18s RIB support needed this Sunday 20 November
We need a RIB driver volunteer to help this coming Sunday 20 November, 1-5pm. Please contact the Commodore if you can help, or put your name down in this Google sheet HERE.A big thank you to all those members who have already volunteered helping out on Sundays with RIB support (John Vasey, Richard Holstein, Darryl Lawrence, Chris Tattersall), and those who have supported on Sundays in the canteen (Paul and Shirley, Clare Alexander, Christine Patton, Mike Dunne, John Verco, Richard Au, Kim Ketelby).
Member survey results – racing
From our Commodore, Steven London…This will be the first of 6 weekly instalments playing back the findings and insights of the Membership survey we ran earlier this year.Unsurprisingly, 96% of members rated ‘racing’ as very or extremely important. We also asked you about more specific elements of racing – including race management, fleet competitiveness, fleet size, twilight sailing, winter racing series, and a potential ‘green fleet’… And this is what you told us:·The introduction of a ‘green fleet’ was generally not supported, with the majority saying they had no strong feeling either way.There was good interest in twilight sailing, and to a lesser extent, the winter racing series… with the majority of respondents saying they were ‘interested’ or ‘very interested’.Race Management, Fleet Competitiveness and Fleet Size – are what really matters to our members – and where our focus should be. Keep the clubhouse tidy
There will be many events at the club over the next few weeks including The Women’s Regatta and the DBSC Christmas Party. We ask that all members remove any personal belongings from the changerooms and any common areas at your earliest convenience in order to maintain a tidy clubhouse for all to enjoy.Anything left by 27 November will either be recycled or donated.
Lost… and found…
Along with the bruises and lost pride, on Saturday some members lost property as well. Rob Bruce collected hats on the Dene Bergman, and these have been left on a bar table in the canteen area if anyone lost one of those…Maxim Djura has lost blue optimum time OS3 watch somewhere in the men’s change room. Has anyone seen it?Luke Parker has had someone switch booties on him. He now has a pair of Vaikobi booties drying on his boat. If you have lost these and have Luke’s booties, can you please switch them back?

Race report 29 October 2022
From our PRO Nick Pellow:We had a strong turnout for heats 7&8 of the Spring Pointscore. The wind was a shifty westerly varying from gusts of 20+knots down to near during the end of race 7.Each of the races had a different favoured tack to the top mark – indicating just how variable and long lasting some of the shifts were. There were some large lead changes in both fleets as the wind died and some boats were either out of wind, or in the outgoing tide, or both.The Standards saw Daniel Costandi win race 7 and Commodore London take home the chocolates for Race 8.Whilst in the Radials, Ian Tudball won race 7 with Murray Stone winning race 8.Thanks to COTD, Yves Stening supported by Ben Byford for laying a decent course given the tricky conditions. At one point they even ferried the PRO to the top mark anticipating
Volly of the week
Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.This week we’d like to thank Kirk Marcolina. Kirk filled the role of newsletter editor for years. He has also been the club’s resident videographer for our events and instructional videos. Since retiring from the newsletter, Kirk has once again stepped up to another large job at the club – coordinating the distributed volunteers across the broad range of jobs to be done outside our racing roster. We are so very grateful for Kirk’s contributions.

Race sign on – new app
Double Bay Sailing Club will now use the Sailor app for race sign on and sign off.We encourage all members – remote and local to the club – to download the app and use it for sign on this Saturday 5 November. Sign on provides us with up to the minute information on members sail numbers for scoring and helps identify who is out on the water for each race.This replaces our previous “remote sign on” web page process for remote members.It is the same app engine that is used by the Australian Laser Class Association for regattas. In the near future, this app will also incorporate our race scoring and results.More information and brief instructions can be found on the DBSC web site HERE.Or just download the app and give it a go! Jazzman sun shade bimini

With a combination of funds from the NSW Government Local Sports Grant Program and Membership Subs, a number of volunteers have been hard at work organising and implementing this long awaited upgrade to provide our Jazzman start boat with a bimini frame and cover. While we continue to wait for the cover to be made, resident handyperson Craig Sheers donated an old sail and went to work fastening it to provide a temporary solution for racing last Saturday where it was much appreciated on one of the sunniest days we have had this season. Thank you to all those who helped in organising the funding and getting it made up, including Pat Levy, Craig Sheers and Diana Chen.
