Race report 26 March 2022

Our PRO, Alistair Sutherland has provided the following report from racing on Saturday.A small but enthusiastic fleet took to the water for Autumn pointscore races 5&6.Race Officers Alistair Sutherland and Derek Hand made an early call to set the windward mark up in Rose Bay, and run the racing between Shark Island and Point Piper, with the “Dardanelles” living up to its reputation as a thinking man’s game. Large shifts of up to 30 degrees in the east / southeast breeze meant that having the head out the boat and getting on the correct tack was the order of the day.  Some did better than others, with Richard George and Pat Levy taking out the wins in the two radial races.  In the standard rig, Ryan Aldrich persevered around the course and his tenacity to make sure he finished paid off with a handicap win. Race report 16 April 2022

RACE REPORT SATURDAY 16 APRIL 2022On Saturday the club held the last of its LTR sessions led by Martin White and ably assisted by Pat Levy, Steven London and Peter Collie. With the breeze from the west dying at lunchtime, racers stayed back in the clubhouse for an extra half an hour after the briefing, enjoying toasties made by Rod Barnes, Jules Hall and Tim Heath. In Shirley and Paul’s absence, it’s rumoured that a rogue jar of jalapeno peppers made it into the mix (someone has been reading the 60 seconds segment).Once the breeze began to fill in again, attendees headed out the club’s inaugural Easter Hunt, designed by Rod Barnes, in what can only be described as a “light but hopeful east-nor-easter” or “better than rain’. Facilitated by PRO Justin Davey, LTRAR Finn Kirk, COTD John Conroy on the Jazzman and Co-COTD John Vasey accompanied by LTR enthusiast Amanda,

Vollies of the week!

Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing. This week we’d like to thank all of the volunteers who have assisted in the canteen during the J.J. Giltinan series. In particular, Shirley and Paul deserve much respect for the effort they have put into having the canteen up and running during the event, with an enormous volume of toasties for hungry 18’ skiff sailors. It has been a tremendous effort!
