Race Report 27 November 2021
The forecasted 30 knot southerly abated to permit racing in a lively 23 knots gusting to 31. It was a tough day at the office for sailors and the race committee, with the first warning signal delayed by 15 minutes and 2 races abandoned in conditions where nobody seemed to be looking for extra laps. The on water racing was managed by Nick Alexander (PRO) and Diana Chen (LTRAR) with on water assistance from Jim Dounis (COTD), Peter Collie, Julian van Aalst and John Vasey. Off the water volunteers were Steve London (CSO) with Kerryn Smith and Julian assisting Paul and Shirley in the Canteen before racing, while Andrew Cox assisted with the post BBQ clean up.The races were heats 3 and 4 of the Club Championship series. Rod Barnes and Daniel Costandi won a race each in the standard rig fleet, while Andrew Cox and James Tudball each had a
Important safety notice
CranesMembers are advised not to stand (or sit) under the suspended counterweights of the davits for the RIBs when launching and retrieving the RIBs. The cranes are periodically checked for safety and the club is undertaking a review of the existing system.Paul Adam Propellor GuardThe propellor guard has been taken off the engine on the Paul Adam owing to damage. Anyone using the Paul Adam must take extra care when operating near people in the water. In an emergency pull the kill cord or place the boat immediately in neutral to stop the spinning of the propellor.
Season opening soiree
The rapidity at which the club has been able to resume activities, combined with the ongoing restrictions on hospitality venues, means that the club has been unable to organise and host the pre-season dinner for a second year in a row. On the other hand, the club is resuming the club championship BBQs on the deck at the club. The first of these will be on Saturday 6 November. This year we are extending the invitation to the club championship BBQ to members and their families after racing. It’s going to be great fun!
What rubbish!
Members are reminded to use the appropriate bins when disposing of rubbish. As a reminder, red lid bins are for landfill waste, while yellow lid bins are for recyclable waste. Please use the container deposit bin for drink containers for which we are able to claim a container deposit.Unfortunately, one of the tasks this weekend is sorting out the rubbish in the yellow and blue lid bins and then washing them, as people have been using them for general waste. YUCK!
Drinks!
Got your attention now! This is just to remind you that if you buy a drink from the canteen, you may not put it back in the fridge after you have opened it and started drinking from it.

Heron, Laser and Hanse 50ftWhat is your ultimate sailing goal? To do well at top level regattas and to enjoy sailing with my family and friends.Tell us the story behind the name of your Laser?
