We have noticed a number of non-DBSC fuel canisters stored in various parts of the club, most notably in the vestibule to the women’s bathroom. Storage of fuel at the club represents a fire hazard that we cannot permit. All DBSC fuel is stored in a fireproof locker, but there is no room in that locker for private fuel canisters. If the fuel canisters shown in the photos below belong to you, can you please remove them by this coming Saturday, 17 October. Any non-DBSC fuel canisters remaining on that date will be removed and disposed. If you wish to claim one of the below canisters and cannot get to the club before Saturday, please let the Commodore know by email HERE. We appreciate your understanding and assistance with this.

Bin Your Waste Properly
We know it’s not glamorous, but we need everyone’s help to ensure the right stuff is going into the right bins. It may seem simple but sadly it’s not happening. We have three different types of bins:The BLUE bins are special “return and earn” recycling bins through which we earn money. The only items that can go in these bins are empty plastic bottles which have a readable barcode (i.e. water, sports drink, etc.) or beer bottles with readable barcodes on labels. Do not crush the bottles and cans as that makes the barcodes unreadable. These items cannot be co-mingled with other types of garbage. NO wine or spirit bottles are permitted. The blue bins should always be inside, except on the rare occasions they are full and are put out for collection. The YELLOW bins take recyclables not included in Blue bins, including wine and spirit bottles, paper, and cardboard. Please make sure to flatten any boxes. The RED bins are for non-recyclable
House Management Volunteer Needed
We’re looking for a House Management volunteer. The role is to keep the clubhouse organized and tidy — find a place to put everything and know where that is, tidy up as needed from time to time, print out paperwork for use each week (CSO sheets, sign on sheets, race record sheets), coordinate labelling instructions on various items as needed, provide input on what is needed at working bees, and coordinate occasional newsletter articles where specific matters need communication. It’s a great way to up your volunteer hours to help secure a lower rack placement. If you’re interested let Andrew Cox know HERE.
DBSC Racing at The UK Masters Nationals
As many know, Matt Knight and his family have relocated to England. Despite moving countries Matt sailed under the DBSC flag for the UK Masters Nationals last weekend. Matt finished 10th (out of 23). Not a bad result after not sailing for 8 months. But it’s clear that Matt still needs to acquire the knack of sailing in colder waters… or just throw in the towel and return to DBSC in sunny Sydney 😉

60 Seconds with Brooke Wilson…
In recent seasons it’s been the young guns at the head of the Radial Fleet. Let’s learn more about one of those ‘kids’ who is always out in front, Brooke Wilson (who is also one of the stars of The Woman’s Regatta Video above): 1. How old were you when you first stepped on a boat?I think I was nearly 8 when I hoped into an Opti’s. 2. If money (& sailing ability) were no limit, what boat would you buy?Extremely hard question, if neither money nor sailing ability were in question, I think I would buy something a bit faster than the laser perhaps a moth or even bigger an AC75. 3. What is your sailing goal?A bit ambitious, but I have quite a few goals in the sailing world, first and foremost the Olympics but I’ve also started to become extremely interested in offshore racing and have great admiration for the

Canteen open for business!
Good news for all those experiencing withdrawal symptoms from our “world famous toasties” – we will be opening the canteen this weekend! Please note, there will be new protocols in place and it is important that everyone observes them.NO ONE IS TO APPROACH THE CANTEEN OR ACCESS THE FRIDGE NEAR THE CANTEEN. There will be an ordering station set up in the park and a canteen volunteer will take orders and radio them to the canteen (“Double Bay, Double Bay – 1 toastie with the lot. Over.”). The ordering station will also have an esky full of drinks to allow you to purchase your drinks there too. There will be NO CASH – all orders will be written up in the tab-book by the canteen volunteer, and you will be invoiced periodically throughout the season. We are excited to have the canteen back in operation and are delighted to have Paul and Shirley back
Rack Reshuffle
We completed our start of season rack reshuffle last weekend. The new rack plan has been posted on the noticeboard. Our rack allocation policy is based on sailing and volunteering – the more you do both of these, the lower your boat will be. It is that simple. If you are interested in volunteering more, please let Andrew Cox know – we have plenty of jobs available! Thanks to all of the members who helped move boats to their new positions. During the move we tried to be diligent in ensuring people’s equipment moved with their boat, but it is important for people to come and check everything was moved correctly before gear gets further displaced.
