Race Report 23 May 2021

Once again we had a chilly night and morning which meant the winter land breeze was at play on the harbour. Unfortunately the Royal Australian Navy had other plans for the harbour and after the first race, we had a delay and a shift of course before the second two races.Race winners in the standard rig championship were Rod Barnes, David Newman and Nick Pellow, while in the pointscore, Ash Deacon, Andrew Foote and Nick Pellow each had a win. In the radial championship, David Huber, Candice Cushway and Andrew Cox each won a race, and in the pointscore Kirk Marcolina, Candice Cushway and Andrew Cox were race winners.Congratulations also go to Candice Cushway, who achieved her goal of winning a race, and Ian Tudball who achieved his goal of beating Commodore Cox. What will they aim for next? Many thanks to PRO Gerry Donohoe assisted by Kate McHugh, David Airey

Thank you!

Thank you to those who stayed back for the “mini bee” after racing on Sunday. The club has been swept out and cleaned out, with lost property taken to Patagonia for recycling and old sails collected to help fisherman in the Pacific Islands. This means the club is nice and tidy for our stage, dance floor and bar! We can’t do these wonderful functions without your help. Thank you.

Call your mates, mates!

We still haven’t quite rustled up the final numbers of the ILCA birthday bash and we still have some boats available to loan.In the interests of (the broader sailing) community spirit we’re asking you to call your sailing friends and ask them to come along on Sunday. In order to borrow a boat for the event, these people should  register for the event here, entering “0” as the sail number. The club will then allocate a boat.

60 seconds with Kirk Marcolina

From the man who initially started publishing this segment…1. How old were you when you first stepped on a boat?I was 5, and learned to sail on a converted wooden duck hunting boat called a Sneakbox. It was a fleet type unique to our club which was situated on an island off the coast of New Jersey. The dinghies were one or two person boats, that were super heavy. If you flipped, it was over, as the boats quickly filled up with water and you had to be towed back to the dock. Hence my continued aversion to flipping to this day!2. If money (and sailing ability) were no limit, what boat would you buy?My laser and Smitten are perfect for now.3. What is your ultimate sailing goal?To win a Pointscore series.4. Tell us the story behind the name of your Laser?Zoomer. When I joined DBSC my daughter was 5
